Veteran Banner Project

It's Time to Honor our Veterans

Help us Honor and show pride in our Veterans. In cooperation with the City of Savannah, the Savannah American Legion Post 287 is proud to provide the opportunity to honor a local veteran or those actively serving in the military by offering a Veteran’s Banner. The Veteran’s Banner will hang on Main Street and around the square in Savannah for approximately one month in conjunction with Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veteran’s Day for two consecutive years.

There are spots for only 100 Veteran’s Banners. The 18”x 36” banner will have the Veterans name, branch of service and service dates. After the banner's two year tour is completed, the banner is retired. The American Legion will then contact the sponsor to give them the retired banner or give sponsors the opportunity to re-enlist the banner.

Applications

Submission will be placed on a waiting list and chosen on a first come, first serve and space available basis for one of the 100 Veteran Banner spots. The application, photo and payment must all be received in order for the banner to be made.

Photos

In-uniform (preferably, but not required) pictures with quality definition and color will appear best on the banner. Scanned photographs need to be of 300dpi resolution. Digital photographs need to be of high resolution. Printed photographs should be 8x10 with good resolution and no defects. Please put an adhesive note on the back of the photo with the Veterans name on it to help us with keeping track.

Biography (optional)

You are also welcome to submit a short biography of your Veteran. The biography may include any Wars, conflicts or major operations that they participated in, major awards or devices and the recognition for those awards and family in the military.

Donation Payment

The $150.00 may be paid by check or cash. Make the check payable to: American Legion Post 287. In the memo: Veterans Banner Project (Veterans Name)

Re-enlistment

After the initial 2 years there will be an opportunity to re-enlistment for a donation of $100.00. Reenlistment of Veteran Banner will need to be received prior to deadline.

Reenlistment Instructions:

  • Mail check to Post 287 c/o Veterans Banner Project.  Include Veterans Name in memo.

If reenlistment donation is not received by Veteran Banner registration two year date, Veterans Banner will be returned to sponsor. Banner can be picked up at the scheduled Post breakfast or coordinated appointment or banner will be mailed to sponsor.
